VTwin Tuners in the UK
« on: March 02, 2021, 06:27:21 pm »
Evening All,

It's been some time since i've swung by - not helped by knackering my knee over 2 years ago & that still hasn't healed.

I finally picked up a full akra system for the Stage3 Patrick bored out MT i picked up a while back and hopefully it will let it release a little bit more. The current setup has the Remus cans on the standard pipes and i plan to keep the Remus cans. It also has a PCV (and Autotune but i plan to junk that) and my dyno guy shut up shop are there any decent VTwin tuners worth going to? I'm based in the South East of the UK but don't mind a trip if we ever get out of lockdown.

Cheers
Nat

I’m not sure if Chris Steedman at CJS racing in Bristol is any good with the MT, but apparently he’s the dogs danglies with the XT1200 and by all accounts many other bikes as well. I’ve heard stories of him having bikes on the dyno for 1/2 day before he’s happy and still only charging a flat rate for a remap. I guess he’s got to be worth a call

I used a chassis tuner in the midlands when I had my car set up a while back - sometimes you really dont mind the schlep for the right shop.
This is the guy I used to do my MT01. It was John that persuaded me to junk the AT-300 in fact...
He also tuned my Aprilia RSV-R which was rebuilt and modded significantly ( it pi55ed oil all over his dyno drum- I wasnt Mr Popular ! ;D )

 Track Elecctronics   https://www.trackelectronics.co.uk/

Or hook up on FB  https://www.facebook.com/Track-Electronics-395517720555815/

Track Electronics has tuned for TT racers and BSB, as well everything in between. He knows what he's about, albeit not local to Kent .....

Much appreciated fine fellows! Norfolk is not a million miles away and even Bristol is doable. I've found a couple of options nearby but i'm not so sure about their VTwin or MT skills.

Booked into Track Electronics for early April after a quick chat with the local tuners left me with the impression that they weren't the ones to do it! However, a quick chat with John and it was quickly apparent that it where it needs to go!

Cheers Tim for the recommendation.

It's still there at the moment...

First up the Ti headers didn't meet up with the Remus end cans as hoped so the Remus end cans have gone to be replaced with the complete S2 exhaust but keeping the Remus rear end plate mod. Now to fill in the gaps...

Next up the TPS went bye bye. Thankfully i had anticipated this and put a spare in the box of bits...

Next up, whilst chasing an electrical gremlin John noticed the fuel pump housing was **** and leaking air... Luckily a New Old stock one popped up on fleabay and was sent over.

Once that was fitted... there was still a gremlin and it looks like the PCV has a problem so that's been sent off to Dynojet and waiting to hear back.

I always suspected this was going to be a bit of a 'fun' bike but John has been great.

I'll keep you posted.

Apologies being late to the thread but I have a note of caution (a bit late). Can't remember the guys name from the site but he had Big CC in Wokingham add a turbo to his MT and whilst the fitment looked good etc I did hear later that it was placed too close to the exhaust outlets and never gave the performance increase expected. This was a second hand conversation so might just be someone bitching. There was also an Aussi guy on the site who went turbo with apparently great results, his was placed at the back of the frame upright below the seat tray and looked really neat besides giving a longer header length.

No turbo on this one but it is supposedly a bored out Patrick Racing kit installed with velocity stacks. Not sure which one or if the cams were done as it's had a hard life and the previous owner was also working on hearsay. I do recall it being on the old MT Forum and i'm pretty sure the OG owner did a lot of work on it.

I did get a basic dyno tune with the standard headers and Remus end cans last year but it really needed the full akra system at a minimum to let it breath a bit easier. The guy who did the initial dyno did say the head looked like it had been flowed etc and the right hand dyno feels very different to the S2 one i also have.

I did warn John that it had a colourful past!

I'll keep you posted.

PS - Ill need to work on the handling when i get it back. I really don't like the short Rizoma bars and risers. It's not too bad if you push it hard but the S2 is sweeter handling. It may also be the Metz tyres as i'm a Michelin man!
