Hi guy's, been off the site a while and came back for a look and found this new forum. Not sure what happened to the old site closing but there was a wealth of information that maybe has gone forever, I hope not. Also good to see some of the old names from the previous forum. Good luck all and hope we grow from strength to strength

Hello, just joined the forum with a new post but copying here too looking for advice!
I own a clean 12000 mile 07 MT01 which has developed a starter issue...
I recently heard a mild clonk when cranking - which immediately left the starter motor freewheeling when hitting the start button.
From the high pitched spinning starter response it appeared that the starter one way clutch might have failed.
I removed the engine case to begin the strip but found a rather confusing situation....The manual states that the starter clutch should freewheel clockwise when viewed head on and lock (to turn crankshaft) when driven anticlockwise.
This is the case on my bike so the starter clutch is not at fault - however the starter motor is spinning the clutch in the freewheel clockwise direction!
Everything seems to be in order mechanically, except the starter seems to be turning the wrong way!
Can anyone tell me if my starter pinion anti clockwise direction is correct? Really can't see how this could occur but I cant see any other solution other than to reverse the starter rotational direction. My starter pinion turns anticlockwise, this then turns through the connection gears resulting in a freewheel slip of the starter clutch gear clockwise.....The clutch needs to be driven the other way to lock and drive the crank! Bizarre.
I made the pipes, stainless steel, they go a nice colour over time. I made the handlebar risers plus other mods including all the rear subframe bits, seat etc
