New Member Not owner on look out
« on: »
Hi All

Thought I had better introduce myself!
Currently don't own an MT-01 I am on the lookout for one, I have not even swung my leg over one but I am besotted
I currently own a SUZUKI GSX1400  which I love but I am on the look out for bike 2!!!!! Wife thinks I am selling the GSX HAHA!
Anyway, I live in Taunton Somerset and there are literally 3 bikes for sale at the moment in the UK
I have questions
What should I look out for?
Quirks, issues stuff that needs doing.
I was wondering if anyone is local to me that wouldn't mind me having a little ride just to get a feel. Then I can confidently order one for delivery!
Thanks guys look forward to chatting!

Welcome.

They are fantastic bikes but very different to inline 4s as they're all low down torque. If you like that type of engine, you'll love it. There is nothing else like them and probably never will be again.

There are very few for sale at the minute, all are at pretty high prices apart from this one https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/YAMAHA-MT01-2005-FSH-AKRAPOVIC-EXHAUSTS-43K-MILES-VGC-JUST-HAD-BIG-SERVICE/264777270994?hash=item3da5f486d2:g:EZEAAOSwJWNe9tkB  which has higher miles (but that shouldn't be an issue, there are plenty with over 100K on them now). It's missing the exhaust covers, though, which may indicate that it's been dropped.

Hi Nikk
Thanks for replying
Funnily enough I am talking with them about delivery!
Thanks for the tip on the covers, I like that look though. I will ask!
I love the look and sound, I just want to make sure it would keep up with my GSX1400 I would be gutted if it didn't!
The GSX1400 although an inline 4 is very tourqey and runs out of steam about 5000rpm anyway!
On a good day the GSX in standard trim is only making about 100bhp and about 90 pounds per foot so I reckon its on par with the MT-01

No worries. Yes, it sounds very similar power wise to the GX - the MT will deliver it with more character, less smoothness. Good luck!

I've ridden both and would say the MT is quicker to the ton than the GSX but hasn't got it's top end, power wise they're 90 bhp and 110ftlbs stock leave it like that you can spend thousands with very little gain believe me :)

So I am considering getting the one in the ebay link, it's a bit rough around edges but I think it's a good deal.
I think I'm doing the right thing!

Hi mate , I had a GSX 1400 for many years before I bought my MT01SP. My 2 cents worth ... the GSX is butter smooth with awesome mid range. Its set up more on the comfort side with very soft suspension, easy reach handlebars. I found the handling woeful when pushed. The cheap frame flexes and its very easy to scrape pegs. Never inspired confidence when pushed. And the finish is just plain cheap. I had multiple areas that were corroding and weathered and I really look after my bikes.
I find the MT is more sporty and the quality of finish is much superior. Its a bike that can be kept forever. The engine delivers massive grunt and you really feel each power stroke. If you love a big thumper ... you'll love the MT.
For touring I'd prefer the GSX , for twisty mountain roads the MT is stellar.
Just my 2 cents ... but hey we're all different. Cheers  Steve
