gents, i need some tech advice.
ive been having problems starting my MT.
today the bike just quit on me. not too surprised, but the symptoms are curious.; an engine light came on ( because of where i was i didnt stop and pull over). next the display went dead, but kept running (i kept riding) for the next 10 or so minutes. Then she just stopped. The battery in question was a Shorai Li ion... when i pulled the seat off, it was too hot to touch! im just curious if anyone else ever heard or seen the display disapear, and keep running.
Thoughts? might i have messed something else up
I have nothing to add, but I will be very interested in what you may eventually find out.
Did your display come back to life sounds like a massive over charge (faulty rec/reg) may have melted some wires mate only heard bad things from Li batteries why are you using one?
A Yamaha service tech was in the auto supply shop I'm in. He went home and got his tools and a meter. Stator is good, rectifier is pumping 14ish volts. Just a dead battery.
Seems to have been the battery....
When the Yammie Guy, did a check, we did see an error 46.
But it was gone as soon as the key was turned on, and she spring to life.
The ride home was uneventful. Thankfully.
Li-Ion...expensive AND useless.... Bit like BoosterPlug then...! lol
ya.....I really wanted it to have the extra space in the battery box for a proper tool kit. maybe ill strap a tube onto the frame between the tire and the engine like those adv riders🤣!
for 2x the price, deffinitely not worth it. Maybe in a racebike where every # counts but not the MT. and the location sucks.
FWIW....did some checking, our stator is used on the FJ13, FZ1,FZ8, TDM,Rhino andGrizzlys 550 and 700. likely more. theYammie Tech guy said just about any 5 wire stato will do, you jusg need to attach it. ours look like ones that sre on some polaris quads.
Trust me Booster Plug works when there is a problem to fix. Fitted to my R1200GSLC and fixed a bad lean off idle throttle response. Never bothered fitting it to the MT01 since I find the fuelling is spot on. Wish BMW could copy. Cheers Steve.
