Barnett Clutch

Mornin All,

It's a bit quiet so i thought i'd see who's around...

The bike is going in for a service and the slipping clutch is on the list. Now Barnett do the Coil Spring Conversion, a Steel Plate set and a Friction Plate set. Are they all needed or just certain bits. Also am i right in thinking that a mix of the springs is best as well as using the original bolts... Anything else?

I bought all friction plates, 9 + 1 but in the end only installed the 9 outer, the 10th is behind a circlip that should be replaced after you remove it. I didn't have one so I skipped that part. Works fine anyway.
As for the springs I now use all six hard springs. I figure if I use a mix and it would slip sometime then maybe installing all hard springs would not be effective as a remedy.
Who knows, really.
The lever was quite heavy to begin with, but I seem to have become accustomed to it and I do not notice it anymore.
I used the Barnett bolts as they are longer.
I used the Yamaha bolt plate as I found the Barnett one to be flimsy and I did not want that.
These ae my findings. No slip whatsoever now.
Be sure to check the hydraulics for air, that will cause severe slip as I have noted.

Exactly as Dan has said. I did replace the 9th plate, I did the spring which is a fiddly thing, prob. dont matter.
Tried a mix of springs first, changed to all hard pretty quick. Retain the long hand lever for the advantage and just toughen up anyway ;D

  Converted to the Barnett a while back, when I made a clutch window The bike started slipping recently...
  I decided to re-fit the rizoma levers in place of the expensive ( and somewhat disappointing) Mizu units, just because I wanted to be sure it wasnt a case of adjustment or rider error.
 I only fitted the conversion IIRC....My friction plates started slipping the first time I changed the oil at @ 8K miles. I burned them clean with a paint stripper gun, and havent had any issues since. I have over 55K miles... I didnt however go the whole hog on the springs when I fitted the Barnett.  The bike has started slipping a little...so Ive just installed the full compliment of Barnett supplied, orange springs.
  Anybody else find the powder coating on these things not of great quality..? ( I wish they were red so I might get then redone , one day !!)
  Anyway - the bike is right. With the longer Rizoma levers, I dont even notice a change in lever pressure.
 I doubt I'll be replacing with the Mizu levers either, although folding items are great if you ever drop the bike...!
    Rizoma are heard to beat it seems....?!

Cheers guys, good to know and i do have aftermarket foldy, adjustable, clicky levers... It's due the service so i'll have a chat with the shop and decide if the Barnett is the way to go yet - i could do without spending money if i dont have to! Plus i determined to get the old MT in the shop over winter to see if that can get back on the road.

Ive got a stage 3 clutch spring kicking around somewhere...if that's the go, let me know, Ill dig it out for a fee !!   8)

Once it is anstalled you can pretty much forget about the clutch. Worth the money in itself.
