So my wife would really like to try this MT that we have but she is quite nervous to try it seeing that she is on her tippy toes and not that big of a girl at 130lbs. I know she can handle the power and the weight if she could just get down to the balls of her feet at least.
I have seen a round disc type of unit that claims to lower the bike by installing it with the shock. Not to sure on how it works or if at all.
Any insight or experiences with lowering the MT would be greatly appreciated.
Hi Stumpy,
The ring will change the distance between the end of the spring and the front eye of the shock and lower the back end. The one I saw on the web didn't look as if it would lower it much and was £130 ish. At that price you might be better getting her a pair of platform boots

I've had the Hyperpro lowering spring kit fitted to the MT along with shaving the top and sides of the seat. It made enough difference to get confident with putting my feet down.
Cheers

Hi Stumpy.
I lowered my MT with an after market spring kit that dropped the rear by up to 20mm. At first it seemed a simple job after watching the Youtube post on the subject. But the Youtube post leaves out some important points.
1, It helps to get the rear of the bike about 200mm higher than it would normally be on the centre stand. My MT has the factory fitted centre stand. That would be about 300mm with only the side stand. You will need the height so the swing arm can be moved to help release the shocks tension when removing and fitting of the shock unit. Beware of 'pulling' on the chain and the rear brake pipe.
2, Next to the foot pegs there are some decorative fins, to stop your toe slipping I think. You will need to loosen all the fixings. This will help with the removal of the front bolt which is one of the fixings. When you remove the front bolt there will be shims and spacers. Collect these in order as you go for refitting later.
3, Spring compressors. To remove the existing spring and fit the new spring the springs have to be clamped almost shut. So the compressors will be under a lot of tension. I had a set for a car that where to big for the spring material diameter. You will need a good strong set for a motorbike spring.
All in all it took a day to change and set up the spring/ride height and in my case well worth the effort for that sense of security when placing my feet when I stop.
Hope this helps
