What's the current go-to on Tyres? I had the Pirelli Angel GT's on for the last 2 years but despite them having plenty of tread i think they are past their best. I had one of the A's on the front but couldn't get a rear at the time. I do wonder if the A's are a bit too hard for the usual UK weather as i still reckon the old PR2's on the original were better despite their tendancy to move around a bit.

I had PR2's on for a while and really liked them, they always felt good and inspired confidence. Earlier this year I got PR4's and initially they felt good, however whilst over in Europe in mid July I had a few scary moments with the front end slipping out on long corners in the Black Forrest and that didn't fill me with confidence for the Stelvio and a few other high alpine passes. Fortunately few of the turns there are not that long so it wasn't too bad, but obviously it was in the back of my mind and undoubtedly affected how I rode - I still enjoyed it though.
I'm going to talk to the place that fitted them and see if they've had any similar problems or if it is maybe pressure related, I'll let you know what they say. -

Pirelli Angel GT (a)s...I guess. The tyre doesnt get harder as the rating moves to the "A" Nat...at least, the compounds remain consistent. What I think you'll find is the carcass has been tweaked with the heavier bike in mind. The fronts cup though. Dunno why..! The Rosso's were always good....Weird that.
ve got a set of Angel GTs fitted and making a short hop over to Austria soon. Im tempted to chuck 'em off despite they arent done yet...I want too try these...!
They wont last long but you'll apprecaite them at the track...! lol

Hmmm, those Evo's look tempting. I'm not a high mileage rider anyway so longevity isn't a requirement - especially if 2yrs on the GT's has me thinking of moving on. I've never quite worked out why the new 2011 MT with the same Hyperpro springs and basic setup from the same guy as the old wrecked one has always felt stiffer. I did wonder if it was the age, as the new one had 4500 on the clock when i got it and the old one was around 8000 when i had the suspension set up done which made a major difference in feel. The only other difference is the tyres - PR2's on the original and GT's on the new one.

Hi. I'm new to the site but have been custodian of an MT01 for 3 years. Like all things bike its each to their own when it comes to tyres etc. I have never been a fan of Pirelli tyres in the UK wet weather. I'm running on Michelin Pilot2's with nitrogen. The tyre have a heavier side wall construction 'for the heavier bike'. Lets face it the MT is no light weight. I'm not into taking risk with MT but my tyres 'chicken strips' are all but gone on the front tyre and are less than 1/2 inch on the rear. The bike feels planted, both in short and long corners, A roads and on country roads. I'm not into riding in the rain, but the times I have the bike feels secure, even when braking hard for an idiot not looking for bikes. As I said its each to there own. Good luck with your choice.

Try the Michelin Road 4's...decent enough for me on the We(s)t Coast of Canada...

I just fitted Rosso III's...
Not a fan of the PR's..
Evo's Ive been steered away from by my tyre dealer.
I have been promised this year will be a good year for new tyres, so keep Google handy...
Having two sets of wheels these days, I have Power 3's also (IIRC) Bought in desperation when in Villach last year ! These "other" wheels are refurbed OEM, so may not use them but looks like I will be hitting some miles into europe this year..Rosso's. whilst my favourite tyre (new to rosso III's ) they just dont have the legs for distance riding...

Avon Storm 3 d XM
I have run my MT01 on them for last 2 years (due replacement anytime now.)
Recommended to me by Head Mechanic at J&S Doncaster .
I had previously used Dunlop Sportmaxx qualifiers but these struggle to handle MTs weight and go very grainy after spirited riding.
The Avons are a recommended fitment for the Hayabusa (also a heavy bike) and I have found them to be absolutely superb.
Bike doesnt move around on them as it did on the Dunlops.
Not cheap, but very good. -

Michelin Road 5's fitted and now the weather turns to utter shite! I was due to be doing a training run to Peterborough and back this weekend but i don't fancy running in new tyres and clutch in the snow!
Roll on the end of bloody winter...

Morning All,
I finally managed to get the 01 out yesterday and run the tyres in. I haven't been able to get out for about 6 months so i'm a bit rusty but i have to say the Road 5's felt bloody good. It took me a while until it dawned on me just how light the steering felt compared to the old Angel GT's i had (which were 2 years old but had plenty of life in them). So, first impressions are very good.
