You're right on both counts, just look at the number of onetime fasteners. A probably unique problem with Harley, is they started with a design or 2 back in 1903 and have ever since just added bits and crammed them into the same frame. Their biggest change on the softail is the rear suspension and it's not as good as the original! They should have just copied the MT to see how to do it right :)

This rant is after a weekend of disassembling practically the whole back end to fit a number plate bracket!

And, cheers Nikk, life of Riley round here mate :)

Hee hee...Yamaha stuffed the MT to bursting too !
My Husqvarna Nuda is a PITA to work on. Its so ridiculously annoying that the seat, exhaust, rear subframe and electrics all have to be removed to get at anything under the fuel tank !  :-\  Designers...meh.
I think it's often an assembly line thing, it certainly is with the automobiles of today. They are sequential in their assembly- there's no reverse engineering them - why would you want to do that, sir ?
Then there's the whole they "dont want you touching the things" in case you fix it...!

 ;D

It's a good job you don't have a busy job that takes you away from the garage, eh Max?  ;D

Changes on the MT are going to be front end/headlight set up, never been totally happy with the MT 03 unit and I've come up with something more radical that will blunt the front end a bit more making it look shorter and more compact. I'm also redoing the electrics and creating an airbox rooting to the new intake, with luck it will also include fan driven induction for fun.

OK, I'm lying :)

Been doing some work on the Harley prior to starting my strip down of the MT. It was supposed to be an easy job of putting on LED indicators and a few other bits and bats.......what a nightmare! They seem to have a one size fits all policy, even with the wiring harness, there's slack lengths of cable tucked all over the place and tie-wraps abound, I thought someone had been messing with the bike until I saw photo's of others. Relays are just shoved in behind the battery cos their clips don't work. Just about every part is made of steel or cast iron, and whilst you might think great solid, it's ridiculous I'm sure you could cut the weight by half using quality plastics or aluminium which would cut the 0-60 time in half.

Anyway just wanted to have a **** and whinge, still love the bike but I'm looking forward to getting back to working on the MT.
