good luck removing the lead battery, its a real PITA!
It is surprisingly hard isnt it, throw that foil sleeve away.

I am thinking that probably the easiest way of loosing some weight where it would be most beneficial would be to install a litium battery instead of the standard lead type. More than 3 kg lighter, and very high mounted. Has anyone tried this?
Yes Dan, last year. It works just fine. Your bike shop will be able to look up the right one for you. Takes up less space too.
